oxygen therapy

The introduction of medications acting on the respiratory system began with the proposal of intrabronchial proprioceptive treatments.

The aim was to find a solution to the respiratory difficulties frequently observed in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, combining attacks of inspiratory bradypnea, bronchitis, frequent upper airway infections and false salivary routes.

The success of compression garments on motor skills led us to introduce the percussion device, developed by Dr. Bird, to improve bronchial proprioception.

This device propels humidified air into the bronchial tree at a rate of 400 per minute.

The results were very positive and were also accompanied by a decrease in fatigue.
We attributed this to hyperoxygenation and decided to supplement the percussionist's indication with oxygen therapy.

The results were immediate, not only on the fatigue but also on the migraines...frequent and rebellious in this syndrome.

These results have been largely confirmed on very large series of patients.

The device supplied is an oxygen concentrator.

Oxygen is prescribed at a volume of 3 to 5 litres/minute for an adult, 1.5 to 2 litres/minute for a child.

Sessions last 20 minutes and are repeated 2 to 3 times a day, including school or work.

This protocol is adapted by the patients themselves, according to their functional needs, they extend the sessions up to 30 minutes or an hour if necessary or they reduce the space to 3 or 4 applications in the week.

Percussion is always coupled with oxygen therapy and used once or twice a dayThe more so in the case of respiratory " blockage " attacks.

Oxygen is indicated whenever migraines and asthenia occur, and percussion is indicated when major respiratory attacks combine (exertional dyspnea, respiratory pauses, bradypnea attacks, especially if accompanied by pseudo asphyxia, swallowing disorders, frequent bronchitis, dysphonia).

The percussionist's prescription may be limited to the fall/winter period.

However, it should be considered as a long-term treatment, but it also provides other services by reducing pain in the limbs and trunk, improving sleep and cognitive abilities.

Some patients have been able to continue their professional or school activity thanks to him.

Other beneficial effects.
